Taken as Payment

A spanking romance story set on an imaginary island where forfeits must be paid when the crops fail.

takenaspayment400x600When she is taken from her home and forced to work in the powerful city of Chandros to pay the debts of her small farming community, twenty-year-old Iona Meers is furious. After an intimate, humiliating medical examination conducted in full view of Chief Inspector Xane—the man she considers responsible for her predicament—her seething anger turns into outright defiance.

Having noted both Iona’s rebelliousness and her helpless arousal during her examination, Xane decides to bring her home with him as his personal servant. Iona’s disobedience quickly results in her being pulled over Xane’s knee for a long, hard spanking on her bare bottom, yet despite her best efforts to ignore her body’s response to his dominance, she soon realizes that there is a reason Xane is known among his people for his skill as a virgin claimer.

Iona’s longing for Xane’s touch grows stronger with each passing day, and yielding to his dominant lovemaking arouses her beyond anything she could have ever imagined. But when a long-buried secret from her past comes to light and calls everything Iona thought she knew about herself into question, will it strengthen her bond with Xane or tear them apart forever?

TAKEN AS PAYMENT by Jaye Peaches is the story of Iona, a resident of Mesos, who is chosen as one of the ten Conscripti and taken to Chandros to pay her commune’s debt through servitude. To me, the story is fashioned very much like feudal societies of old with a blend of the various communities from the Hunger Games.

When Iona goes to Chandros, rather than being placed in a house as a servant, she becomes the property of the tax collector, Xane, who is taken with her.

The story is well told and entertaining. Iona has several misconceptions about life in Chandros, some are accurate, and she’s in for a trying time until she comes to understand and accept how things are.

She’s both afraid of and attracted to Xane and eventually, her desire wins out and the two enter into a relationship. One of the areas where they are at odds is that people of Chandros do not marry (it’s forbidden) and are polyamorous whereas the people of Mesos (and the other communes) believe in marriage and monogamy.

The world that the author has created is well thought out, the characters were believable, and the relationship between Xane and Iona was one that you wanted to cheer on. I loved how she expanded sexually and grew to enjoy everything that Xane introduced to her. And yes, the sex scenes were marvelous.

You definitely want to add this to your reading list. – See more at:

Romance Reviews

In a post apocalyptic world, some of the survivors become the elite, eligible for upper education & jobs, while others live in communes, toiling the fields to supply food to the elite. If the crops fail or the agri-people can’t pay their ‘taxes’, collectors like Xane arrive to demand conscripts who follow meekly back to the city, taking up positions of servitude to the elite. Mia is one such conscript, who is rescued by Xane to work in his household.

They have entirely different backgrounds, & ideas about life, love & the pursuit of happiness, but gradually they fall in love. However, before they can move ahead, Xane must resort to spanking Mia on numerous occasions to demand her acquiescence to his dictates.

I’m not usually a fan of domestic discipline, but I usually like Peaches’ stories, & I did like the mind’s view of the future, provided by the author here. In the end there is a HEA ending, & a mutual understanding of each other’s ways, so I think you’ll like Peaches’ latest.
