Hi! Thank you for having me over on your blog today to promote my new book, The Doctor’s Little Mate!
In this snippet, Maggie has a bad dream. When she wakes up, she tells Ian about it and he comforts her.
“Would you like to tell me what your bad dream was all about?”
She snuggled closer to me and I almost told her to forget having to tell me what her nightmare was about. However, I knew if it upset her to the point that she was being so bratty to me, it was something that I should know about.
“It was about that creepy doctor in my hospital room. The one whose eyes changed color. I finally remembered what color they reminded me of.”
When she didn’t continue, I prompted her. “What did they remind you of?”
“The same color of that planet, Cernius. I dreamt that the doctor had morphed into a… Serpentine and—and was treating me like… a baby.” She wiped her wrist over her nose before continuing. “Then, he… he was about… to—to kill me.” Just like that, the waterworks started again.
“Shhh.”
I rocked her back and forth in my arms, the entire time whispering sweet nothings into her ear, to calm her down.
She clung to me the entire time.
Finally, when she settled down, I tipped her chin up so our eyes met.
“You forgot a very big part to your nightmare, honey.”
“What?”
“Me. If a Serpentine ever tried to hurt you, they’d have to go through me first and I would never let them get to you.”
“Oh, Ian,” she giggled before cuddling closer, making me feel incredibly happy. I was going to do whatever I had to, to hear her giggle like that more often.
